Learn how to do the Boingy-Boing yoyo trick. Video transcript

This trick is called the Boingy-Boing (boing-e-boing) and it looks like this.

As you can see this is one of the most impressive tricks that you can do, but it is also one of the more difficult tricks to learn for some people. I’m going to give you a couple of tips that will hopefully make it easier to learn for you so don’t get too frustrated as you are trying to perfect it.

The first thing that you want to do to start this trick is your one-and-a-half front-mount. The trick actually starts a little like Split the Atom where you are going to bring your opposite hand right underneath the yoyo. Instead of bringing it all the way under and out the back side you are just going to leave it right underneath the yoyo. When you do that, at the same time you are going to pull up with your yoyo hand. That will cause the yoyo to shoot forward into that front string.

Once you’ve got the yoyo into the front string you will see that it kind of makes a “v” shape. It will go forward like this. To get the yoyo to come back again all you do is pull up with your yoyo hand. To get the yoyo to shoot back and forth that is all your doing. You can see that my bottom hand isn’t moving whatsoever and my top hand is moving straight up and down.

The key to this trick is that as the yoyo gets into that “v” shape in the front you pull up and it shoots back; this will cause a “v” shape with the string in the back; you pull up, it shoots forward again. It is that pulling up motion, it is the rhythm of it that makes the trick work. You want to keep a nice smooth rhythm. You can either go very slow, or you can do it fast. It is that same up and down motion that is making the trick actually function properly.

Since what you are doing is really throwing the yoyo backward and forward into the string there is a temptation to try and do a front and back motion with your top hand. As you can see the trick doesn’t look as smooth. It is much more difficult to do that way and it is not nearly as accurate. You want to get away from that as quickly as possible. Really just try and throw the yoyo straight up and down with your hand like that.

To dismount you just want to stop the motion. You can either stop it with your hand in the back, which will leave you with a one-and-a-half mount, or you can stop it in the front and just pull your finger out. Dismount the yoyo just like that.
