This trick is the One-and-a-half Front-Mount or the Split-Bottom Mount. It looks like this.
Just like any mount, most of the action is not going to come from the hand that is closest to the yo-yo when it lands on the string, but the other hand. So in this case it is your opposite hand. So, to do this trick you want to lift the string up with your opposite hand, and then you are going to set your yo-yo hand right in front of the yo-yo like this. Give the yo-yo a little bit of a swing and on its way back lift up slightly with your opposite hand and you can see that causes the yo-yo to flip right over your yo-yo hand and land right on the string. As you can see my yo-yo hand is basically staying still the whole time. All the action is coming out of my opposite hand. And that’s the basic mount, just like that. You can work on it just like I showed you.
There are two variations that are kind of cool that make this mount, which is the introduction to a whole bunch of new tricks, much more exciting. I’m going to show you those.
The first one, once you’ve thrown the yo-yo you are going to want to take your thumb and your first finger on your opposite hand and you are going to pinch the string, but do it with your hand upside down. Pinch it just like this. Then you are going to want to pull down with your yo-yo hand to flip the yo-yo over. That will give it some momentum so that you can land it right onto the string, just like that.
The second uses the momentum that is started from your throw. As it swings towards yourself what you are going to do is stick your first finger just like you were doing a basic single mount, but instead you are going to miss. If you are right handed you are going to miss with the string off to the right. That will cause the yo-yo to flip right over your hand. After it flips over your hand use that momentum to land it right on the string. The whole thing looks like this.
