A submission into the Yoyoskills.com contest by Brian and Roland.
UPDATED with new video June 29.
YoyoSkills.com is putting on a yoyo contest that I thought fans of YoTricks.com might enjoy. It is a video contest where all contestants must use responsive yoyos – like the Luminator or the Dominator. For a complete list of rules go here: http://www.yoyoskills.com/?p=4263
Here is a video Joe submitted using a Luminator. Enjoy!
Here at YoTrick.com we have a lot in store for the month of June. To kick it off we are offering free shipping on orders $25 and over for the entire month (US customers only).
In addition to our June free shipping offer we will be adding a whole new trick category: Unresponsive. We have gotten a lot of emails from people who have requested we add unresponsive play to YoTricks.com so we have been working hard to bring it to you. Check back later this week for a new Luminator mod for unresponsive tricks and a few tricks to go with it.
We will also be adding a new kit section to our store. A yo-yo kit will include everything you need for mods and maintenance for your yo-yos.
(If you would like to order and you live outside the US please send us your order through our Contact page and we will process it promptly.)
With the weather starting to warm up around the country may I encourage you to seize the day, or the daylight at least, and take this opportunity to yo-yo outside. Nice weather is a great time to practice your larger tricks like loops and two-handed tricks without the fear of breaking a TV or one of your mom’s prized antiques.
Of course, even without antiques and TVs yoyoing outside has its own unique challenges. Humidity can make your fingers feel sticky. Cold can make your hands stiff, not to mention the increase in pain if you happen to hit yourself. Rain will force you back inside. This is exactly why as dedicated yo-yoers we need to take every opportunity to utilize nice days to our skills advantage by practicing tricks that can only be attempted in the wild. Leave your picture and string tricks inside and expand your yo-yo horizons. Embrace the wind and discover your inner looper. You might just enjoy yourself.
YoTricks.com has just setup a fan page on Facebook. Currently this page is just a feed of our new content as it comes in, but we hope to expand this in the future to utilize many of the powerful social networking features of Facebook. For now, click on the Facebook logo to become a fan of YoTricks on Facebook and this will keep you up to date with everything that’s happening on YoTricks.com. Let us know if you have any suggestions for features we could add to YoTricks or our Facebook account to help this site continue to get better and better.
The Illuminator is now on sale exclusively at YoTricks.com. After last week’s announcement that we had yo-yos for sale we received a number of emails asking about the Illuminator. Today we are pleased to announce that we now have Illuminators in stock and they are available for immediate purchase from our shop.
The Illuminator is a clear Luminator yo-yo with multicolored lights on each side. The perfect yo-yo for performing or just showing off.
After much waiting YoTricks.com now has yo-yos for sale. We currently have Originators, Dominators, and Luminators in stock. We are still waiting on a few tweaks on the Illuminators but we hope to receive those soon as well. Currently our store only works for US customers. If you live outside the US use our contact page to send us an order and we will get back to you through email with the shipping costs so we can complete the transaction.
In addition, look for new mod and product videos on YoTricks.com to be showing up in the next week or two. We have already filmed a number of videos and are in the process of preparing them for viewing.
Right now I am working on about a half-dozen new tricks: a few one-handed and a few two-handed. I typically rotate through these tricks in any given practice session so that I don’t get too burned out on one trick. Still, there are some tricks that I just have to put aside for a period of time because I have stopped making any real progress. This is usually quite frustrating because I really want to master the trick. However, over time I have learned that putting a trick aside is not always a bad idea. Sometimes you have to let tricks simmer. Much to my delight whenever I come back to these tricks I find them much easier to learn than they were before.
Letting a trick simmer is not a magic formula. You cannot work on a new skill for five minuets and put it away for a week and expect to be its master when you return. No. Letting a trick simmer is a last resort.
You put in an hour a day for a couple of weeks on a new trick. While you have made small gains it still mocks you in your sleep. You press on undaunted, certain you will overcome. But alas, it is no use. Now is the time to put it aside. How long? If you have been working on the trick for a week, let it simmer for a week, maybe even two. Our minds have a way of working things out in our down-time that we cannot sort through in the midst of the battle. When you return remember everything you learned before and start again. I am certain you will be pleased with the results.
On Saturday the Dominators proved their worth by putting on a great show at the Pacific Northwest Regional yo-yo competition. In the hands of Adam Bottiglia the Dominators rose to take third place in the 2A championship division for two-handed yo-yoing. The first and second positions were taken by Grant Johnson and Ryan Lai who were both competing out of region. By taking third place in the competition and first among regional competitors Adam was granted the seed to compete at the National yo-yo competition later this year.
